Jordi Oropeza Solórzano

Jordi Oropeza Solórzano is the founding partner of Oropeza Abogados, a litigation law firm that includes in its clients list several fortune 500 companies as well as mexican public corporations. He is a lawyer with a vast and varied experience in high-impact litigious cases, having successfully represented both public and private companies, as well as high-profile individuals for over twenty years.

In his long record of professional practice, he has distinguished himself particularly in litigation related to Real Estate, Shareholders’ disputes, and in Securities conflicts. Jordi Oropeza has become a reference in high profile cases, having taken part in the most important commercial litigation cases argued in mexican Supreme Court.

In one of these high-profile cases Jordi represented a one of the most important brokerage firms in Mexico against the only clearing agency disputing that the charged commissions for the clearing service where illegal and not permitted under mexican regulation. The case was ultimate settled, causing significant reform for the whole clearing service industry.

Another paradigmatic case in his career involved one of his client’s a public spanish company, which filed a lawsuit against a multinational software company to obtain punitive damages for their tortious practices in Mexico. It was the first multimillion dollar judgement condemning a private corporation to pay punitive damages which do not involve personal injury in Mexico. This practice has led him to participate as an expert witness in cases in the states of Florida, New York, and Texas, as well as England, rendering affidavits and depositions during several procedures.

Academically, for more than 12 years and to this day is a permanent professor and lecturer in the selected topics of business law course at Escuela Libre de Derecho, where he is also a permanent lecturer on seminars about Real Estate and Corporate Law.
